Role : Cheeemonger Shop and Café Assistant 

Job Type: Part-Time with the opportunity for extra hours in future

Who are we? :  &Caws is a cosy and welcoming artisan cheese shop, deli & cafe who are passionate about sharing our love for fine cheeses, delicious deli products, and unique culinary experiences. Our shop combines retail with a small café which opens 5 days a week and transforms into a wine bar serving small plates, charcuterie, unique wines and of course cheese at the weekends. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service within a warm friendly atmosphere, championing Welsh and British produce. Our future plans include further enhancement of the current food & beverage offerings and expanding our current operation.

Job Description: We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer-focused Shop and Café Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis. This role is perfect for someone who loves food, especially cheese! and enjoys interacting with people and is not afraid to push themselves, get involved and be part of a dynamic team.  You’ll play a key role in creating a memorable experience for our customers, from recommending products, preparing small café orders and being involved in the day-to-day running of the cafe operation. There are ample opportunities for training in both the culinary and cheese aspects of the business and expanding your current knowledge and skillsets

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome customers and offer assistance with product selection and inquiries.

  • Provide expert knowledge about our range of cheeses and deli items.

  • Handle café orders, including coffee and simple snack preparation.

  • Operate the till and manage cash transactions accurately.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting shop and café space.

  • Assist with stock replenishment and cleaning duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Passion for food, especially cheese, wine and customer service.

  • Previous experience in retail or hospitality is preferred but not essential.

  • Strong and excellent communicator with a friendly, approachable demeanour.

  • Intuitive, quick to think on their feet, and able to keep a level head during busy and challenging times with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.

  • Flexibility to work weekends and occasional holidays

  • Upbeat and able to lead a team to deliver exceptional service at all times

  • Well-presented and a good team player
